Abstract: Family caregiving for clients with mental illness is crucial in psychiatric treatment and rehabilitation. It is particular important in the People’s Republic of China where over 90% of clients with schizophrenia are taken care by their family members. In this paper, the writer attempts to describe current situation of family caregiving of clients with mental illness in the People’s Republic of China. Within social and cultural conditions in the People’s Republic of China, family is regarded as the most important caregiving for clients with mental illness. However, family caregivers in the People’s Republic of China are not properly supported by related professionals, interventions and services.
