Abstract: Simulations of the predicted use of building energy for three new buildings at the design stage in Hong Kong are reported. The three buildings are an industrial building, a 'dual-purpose' building, and a commercial building. The cooling loads per floor area and the cooling loads per envelope area are studied. The overall thermal transfer values (OTTV) of the building envelope are also investigated by referring to the cooling load and an equation derived earlier by another building energy simulation program. The differences in using the data of a generated typical meteorological year (TMY) and two example weather years (1980 and 1989), compiled according to the recommendation by the Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers in U.K., are discussed.
