Abstract: Research work in generating a partial orbit lunar digital terrain model (DTM) from Level 2C Chang'E-1 (CE-1) images using photogrammetric methods is presented. Three tests using a subset of CE-1 backward, nadir and forward image combinations from orbit 0161 were made using LPS version 9.3.2. Following the triangulation, each pair of images was used to create a DTM with 1200 meter (10 pixels) resolution. In order to check the quality of the generated DTM, we choose the relatively better combination (backward & nadir) DTM (RMS error is 507 m) to compare with the CE-1 laser altimeter (LA) data. The comparison showed that the 3D points of the photogrammetric DTM are correctly located, however, the surface is significantly flatter than that indicated by the LA data due to the less than optimal control point selection.
