Abstract: Evanescent wave gas detection using a silica-air microstructure fibre (MF) was demonstrated. A detection sensitivity of about 5.5% that of direction absorption spectroscopy per equal length was achieved. The special geometry of the MFs allowed a long interaction length and enabled distribution sensing to be realized.
