Abstract: The response of a vertically composition-graded ferroelectric film to the action of an external uniaxial applied stress is studied using a thermodynamic model. The charge offset and the asymmetry of its hysteric and pyroelectric responses are all found to be strongly sensitive to the applied stress. The possibility of tuning the properties of graded ferroelectric devices for design optimization using an applied stress is investigated and discussed.
