Abstract: The synthesis of Al2O3 amorphous phase on aluminum alloy 7075 was analyzed using in-situ laser cladding through thermite reaction between CuO and Al powders. The mixed powders of CuO(3 mol) + Al(2 mol) + SiO2(3 mol) were placed on an Al-7075 alloy substrate using a pasting binder. At top of Al2O3 reaction layer, a complete amorphous structure of Al2O3 phase was present and underneath it, a structure consisting of an amorphous Al2O 3 phase. The results show that top surface layer will experience highest cooling rate and an amorphous Al2O3 phase could be formed at outermost surface of Al2O3 reaction layer.
