Abstract: Safety in a single-deck bus due to an accidental fire is discussed. The two-layer zone model ASET developed under the assumption that air enters through an air gap to the compartment was selected as the fire simulation tool. Three sets of design fires - a seating fire, a seating/baggage fire, and a NFPA t2-fire with cut-off value 1 MW - were considered. It is found that heat release rate should be limited to a certain value, depending on the geometry of the bus, in order to delay the occurrence of flashover.
