Abstract: Shear band multiplication and interaction in Zr-based bulk metallic glass (BMG) composites are investigated based on the phase-field modeling of shear banding. Shear band multiplication is closely related to the bonding conditions at the interface between reinforcement and BMG matrix and is quantitatively characterized. We analyze the mechanisms of deflection and integration of shear bands. It is found that the intersection of major shear bands would generate secondary shear bands, which are responsible for the enhancement of plasticity of BMG-matrix composite.
