Abstract: This paper presents an on-line forecasting approach for real-time traveller information system in Hong Kong. These forecasts are based on the real-time traffic data and the off-line travel time forecasts. The real-time traffic data which consist of Autotoll tag data, Global Positioning System data and Closed Circuit Television data, are incorporated to update the on-line travel time database. The Traffic Flow Simulator is developed to obtain the off-line travel time forecasts and the variance-covariance matrices for short-term travel time forecasting. The real-time traffic data are used for updating the on-line travel time database and the variance-covariance matrices. The deliverables of the real-time traveller information system are on-line travel times, shortest path by a selected origin and destination and speed map which can be displayed in the website.
