Abstract: NiCrBSi powder was painted onto the roughened surface of Al6061 and then a laser surface cladding using a high-power 2 kW CW Nd-YAG laser was conducted. The experimental results showed that the aluminium alloy had high absorptivity for 1.06 μm laser. With optimum process parameters and at Ar shield, a compact cladding layer of Ni-Al was obtained. The cladding layer was composed of a fine dendritic structure of intermetallic compounds of Ni-Al. The surface hardness (Hv) was over 9000 MPa. The results of the electrochemical corrosion and the frictional wear showed that the properties of electrochemical corrosion and friction wear of the Al6061 was improved by means of the laser cladding.
