Abstract: Hong Kong's karaoke box industry has faced difficult times in recent years, namely the ever stiff competition, proposed regulations on fire safety and the pressure for organisational improvement. To address these issues, the karaoke industry leaders have unified their loosely-connected businesses to form a concern group on fire safety. The chains have also innovated in many new ways to enhance their quality including the full use of the available information technology, computerised food and beverage ordering systems, public address systems, the provision of proper training for staff and so on. In future, the industry leaders propose using personal digital assistants and web-based cashiering programmes to enhance the service and lower operational costs.
