Abstract: The ultimate line of the double shear strength theory in π plane is a polygonal line according to the double shear unified strength theory. The theory is simple in form and convenient to use. In order to verify the shape of the strength line of materials, the apparatus with complex stress control function is needed to reveal the strength characteristics in complex stress conditions. In the light of double shear unified strength theory, the equations for controlling stress of the hollow cylindrical specimen subject to the specific double shear stress paths are derived. The design of the specific stress paths and the stress control equation are proposed correspondingly.
