Abstract: An active injection locking technique was proposed to improve the transmission characteristics of a distributed feedback fiber laser (DFB-FL). The DFB-FL was fabricated by scanning phase mask method in an Er/Yb-codoped fiber. A polarization independent circulator was employed to inject the DFB-FL to a Fabry-Perot laser diode. The side mode suppression ratio of the injection locked laser was 45 dB and improved to 70 dB using an optical bandpass filter. Linear polarized output was obtained and relative intensity noise at the relaxation oscillation frequency was effectively suppressed.
