Abstract: A nondestructive technique for determining the longitudinal dispersion profile of an optical fiber is discussed. The technique uses the output waveforms of the optical fiber and an optimization algorithm to determine the fiber characteristics. The formalism is also used for generalization of third-order dispersion coefficient or Kerr constant.
