Abstract: In this work, a coupled nonlinear equation is derived to describe the optical pulse propagation along a twin-core fiber in the presence of birefringence. The properties of the equation obtained and the effects of randomly varying birefringence on soliton transmission and soliton switching in a twin-core fiber are also discussed.
