Abstract: It is common to use sound insulation as a last resort for noise control in an urban city. Sound insulation of air-conditioned building is of importance. The stiffeners have important effects on the sound insulation properties of a stiffened structure. The experimental studies on the stiffened structures are vital for the study of the stiffener effects. Based on this concern, a simple stiffened plate system is designed which can be conveniently used in the experimental studies to investigate the effects of the stiffeners, such as the effects of the stiffener number, different stiffener locations and different stiffener materials. Experiments are carried out on this system. The results show that the properties of the stiffener, such as the stiffener positions, indeed have significant effects on the structural responses. The effectiveness of the designed stiffened system is also demonstrated.
