Abstract: A study is conducted for canceling the microvibration of Hi-tech facilities subjected to the nearby traffic disturbance. Different from the conventional approach to control the microvibration of floor or building to mitigate the microvibration of the equipment and devices in Hi-tech buildings, a conceptual approach of quiet platform is proposed. In this approach, an isolation system with actuator is installed between the platform, on which vibration sensitive facilities are fixed, and the floor, on which the platform is installed. A sub-optimal control strategy is used to control the actuator, and in this strategy the dynamic property is considered. To confirm the feasibility of this scheme, simulations are performed on a three-story building with a platform on the first floor subjected to the train-induced disturbance. In the simulations, a hydraulic actuator is employed and the vibration levels of the controlled platform and each floor are evaluated by BBN Vibration Criteria. Results show that with active control, the microvibration of the platform can be greatly reduced to a quiet level compared to the floor microvibration.
