Title: Blending Culture and Creativity: Fruituage
Authors: Chan, Chak Ray
Cheung, Hoi Ho Ian
Chan, Ka Lo Carol
Lam, Hei Yin Belle
Issue Date: Sep-2025
Abstract: Fruituage was born from the fascination with Hanzi and the desire to give traditional snacks a new identity. The team, Ray CHAN, Ian CHEUNG, Carol CHAN, and Belle LAM designed packaging that used Chinese radicals as a metaphor, making the learning of characters part of the snacking experience. The journey was filled with challenges, especially in merging cultural elements with product design, but regular feedback from PolyU mentors and the Material Resource Centre helped them stay focused. Winning the 2024 Red Dot Design Award and being featured by media outlets was incredibly rewarding. Through this project, the team learned the value of research, collaboration, and creative risk-taking. Fruituage showed us how design can make culture accessible and engaging for everyone
