Abstract: Luminescent single-crystal ZnO nanorods have been synthesized in large-scale via liquid phase synthetic method. SEM, XRD, TEM and PL spectrum were used to investigate the morphology, structure and luminescent properties. It indicates that the controlled growth of these nanorods along the < 001 > direction and with the different lengths (from hundreds of nanometers to tens of micrometers) is realized through altering the solvents composition. Under the excitation of ultraviolet light, the emission of undoped ZnO nanorods is related to the free excitons, interstitial oxygen and oxygen vacancies, while the emission of Eu-doped ZnO nanorods is mainly attributed to the characteristic emission of Eu 3 + ions.
