Upcycling Waste for a Carbon-Neutral Tomorrow

Abstract

The episode “Upcycling waste for a carbon-neutral tomorrow” features Ir Prof. POON Chi-sun, Director of the Research Centre for Resources Engineering towards Carbon Neutrality (RCRE), Michael Anson Professor in Civil Engineering, Chair Professor of Sustainable Construction Materials, and Head of Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. In this episode, Prof. Poon introduces his team’s research on Eco-Blocks, a green concrete made from construction, demolition and other discarded waste. Prof. Poon also shares his team’s works on applying carbon curing technology to improve concrete performance and using valorisation technology for producing low-carbon construction materials from waste glass. At RCRE, Prof. Poon and other members have been conducting impactful research on the recycling of woody waste, waste glass, incineration ashes, etc. 本集以「『廢物』升級再造 邁向『碳中和』未來」為題，主講學者為碳中和資源工程研究中心（RCRE）主任丶安禮信土木工程教授丶環保建材講座教授兼土木及環境工程學系系主任潘智生教授。 潘教授於本集介紹其團隊在「環保再造磚」方面的研究。「環保再造磚」是一種綠色混凝土，由建築裝修、翻新拆卸及其他工程所產生的建築廢料而製成。潘教授亦分享團隊透過應用碳固化技術來提高混凝土性能，以及運用廢物增值技術，將廢棄玻璃轉化成用於建築和基礎設施的低碳材料。潘教授及其他 RCRE 成員致力就木材、玻璃和焚燒灰燼等廢料的回收利用，進行具影響力的研究。
